For many families and carers, supporting a loved one with a disability is a rewarding yet demanding role. It’s okay to need a break and that’s where Short Term Respite comes in.

Under the NDIS, Short Term Respite gives participants a chance to spend time away from their usual routines in a safe, supportive environment, while giving carers time to rest, recharge, or attend to other responsibilities.

At Life Your Way, we believe respite should be more than just care it should be an experience.

What is Short Term Respite?

According to the NDIS, Short Term Respite allows for:

  • Time away from the usual carer or environment

  • Up to 14 days at a time

  • A focus on social connection, skill building, and well-being

It’s not just about stepping away it’s about stepping forward.

How we support respite at Life Your Way

Our retreats go far beyond basic care. They’re immersive, energising, and designed to foster independence, connection, and joy.

Each retreat includes:

  • Group-based activities built around social interaction, confidence, and purpose

  • Structured support from qualified staff

  • Safe, inclusive environments where participants can thrive

  • Experiences that build life skills, friendships, and memories

Think bonfires and beach walks, not clipboards and routines.

The carer’s perspective

While participants are out exploring new places, connecting with peers, and developing new skills, carers have peace of mind knowing their loved one is supported, included, and genuinely enjoying themselves.

You get the time to recharge. They get the chance to grow.
