Life Your Way is committed to protecting the privacy of our participants, employees, volunteers, and all other stakeholders. We are bound by the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act). The APPs are designed to protect the confidentiality of information and the privacy of individuals by regulating the way personal information is collected, used, disclosed, and managed.

1.1 Scope

The purpose of this policy is to protect the information assets of:

  • Life Your Way;
  • Participants;
  • Employees and volunteers;
  • Customers/suppliers; and
  • Other stakeholders.

1.2 Purpose

This policy seeks to ensure that personal information collected by Life Your Way is handled in a way that is compliant, ethical, and adheres to the Australian Privacy Act and industry best practice. Personal information is, generally speaking, information or an opinion relating to an identified, or reasonably identifiable, individual.

This policy explains the types of personal information that we may collect and hold, how that information is used, and with whom the information is shared. It also sets out how you can contact us if you have any queries or concerns about this information.

1.3 Objectives

The implementation of this policy is crucial to maintaining and demonstrating our integrity in our dealings with participants and stakeholders.

It is the policy of Life Your Way to ensure:

  • Personal information is protected against any unauthorised access or modification;
  • Confidentiality of personal information is maintained;
  • Personal information is not disclosed to unauthorised persons through deliberate or careless action;
  • Regulatory and legislative requirements are met; and
  • All breaches of security of personal information and suspected weaknesses are reported and investigated.

1.4 Personal Information We Collect

The types of personal information we may collect include contact information such as your name, address, email address, and telephone number. Personal information may be collected through web forms on our website, application forms, surveys, emails, and telephone conversations.

We also collect statistical information about visitors to our website using web analytics and session recording technology provided by third-party service providers. These services use Cookies to help us understand how visitors access and use our site. Generally, this information cannot be used to identify particular individuals. However, in some circumstances, it may include a visitor’s internet protocol (IP) address, which could be linked to an individual.

1.5 Comments and Media

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection. An anonymised string created from your email address (called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to check if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture will be visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you upload images to the website, avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can download and extract location data from images posted on the website.

1.6 Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These cookies are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for one year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after one day.

1.7 Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor had visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content, including tracking your interaction if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

1.8 Use and Disclosure of Personal Information

Life Your Way may use and disclose your personal information for a range of purposes, including to:

  • Provide you with our products or services that you have requested;
  • Respond to your queries or feedback;
  • Provide you with any communications or publications in which we think you might be interested, or which you have requested;
  • Let you know about developments in our products, services, and programs that might be useful to you;
  • Facilitate your participation in forums, programs, and events, such as webinars;
  • Consider your application for employment or participation in our programs;
  • Improve user experience across the website and digital campaigns; and
  • Campaign reporting.

Life Your Way may disclose your personal information to third parties such as our professional advisers, external service providers that provide services to us, or other stakeholders. We may also disclose your personal information if required or authorised by law, where disclosure is necessary to prevent a threat to life, health, or safety, or where the Privacy Act otherwise permits us.

1.9 Security and Management of Personal Information

Life Your Way will take reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure. The ways we do this include:

  • Limiting physical access to our premises;
  • Limiting access to the information we collect about you;
  • Requiring any third-party providers to have acceptable security measures to keep personal information secure; and
  • Implementing physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards in line with industry standards.

If we no longer require your personal information and are not legally required to retain it, Life Your Way will take reasonable steps to destroy or permanently de-identify the personal information.

We train our employees about the importance of confidentiality and maintaining the privacy and security of your information. Access to your personal information is restricted to employees who need it to provide benefits or services to you.

1.10 Data Retention

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This allows us to recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if applicable), we store the personal information provided in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

1.11 Data Requests and Rights

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you, excluding any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

1.12 Spam Detection and Automated Services

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Your IP address may also be included in password reset emails for security purposes.

1.13 Analytics

We may use third-party service providers to monitor and analyse the use of our service.

  • Google Tag Manager: We use Google Tag Manager, a tag management system by Google LLC, to manage various analytics and marketing tags on our website. Google Tag Manager itself does not collect any personal information. However, it triggers other tags that may collect data in accordance with their own privacy policies. For more information, visit the Google Privacy Terms web page.
  • Google Analytics: We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect information about how users interact with our website, including the pages they visit, the time they spend on each page, and how they arrived at the site. This information is used to compile reports and improve our website.
  • LinkedIn Insights Tag 2.0: The LinkedIn Insights Tag is a snippet of code added to our website that helps us optimise our campaigns, learn about our audiences, and better target advertising campaigns. The LinkedIn Insights Tag enables the collection of data regarding visits to our webpage, including the URL, referrer, your IP address, characteristics of your device and browser, and timestamp.

This Privacy Policy will be reviewed from time to time considering new laws and technology, changes to our operations and practices, and the changing business environment.
